Funeral Services for Wayland Dwayne Sweeney, 87-year-old Corn resident and former Hydro resident, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Hydro United Methodist Church with Taylor Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Wayland was born July 5, 1933, in Thomas, to Lionel Dage and Elsie (Lubinus) Sweeney and passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Weatherford Regional Hospital.

He was raised and attended school in Thomas later moving to Hydro, graduating from Hydro High school in 1951. After he graduated, he went on to get his Bachelor of Science at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1957.

He married to Yvonne Quattlebaum February, 22, 1957, they made their home in Stillwater and later moved to Leadville, Colorado. He had lived in Bartlesville, Midwest City and Nicoma Park before moving back to Hydro in 1971.

His wife passed away in 1971. He later married Barbara King Edwards on November 30, 1976. They made their home in Hydro. He retired in 2009 and moved to Corn with Barbara. He enjoyed OSU sports, traveling, taking pictures, fishing, hunting deer and quail and collecting coins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hydro Masonic Lodge, P.O. Box 281, Hydro, OK 73048 or to Hydro United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 426, Hydro, OK 73048.

Survivors include: Wayland was survived by his wife Barbara Sweeney, of the home, in Corn; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda Sweeney, of Apache; sons, Randy Sweeney, of Binger, and Scott Sweeney, of Hydro; a step-son, Christopher Edwards, of Yukon; brother, Richard Sweeney, of Houston; four grandchildren, Chandra (Sweeney) Stanfield and husband, Shane, their children Layne and Lily, Challie Sweeney, Taylor Sweeney and Colby Sweeney; and step grandchild, Cheyenne Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one brother L.D. Sweeney his daughter Marty Devonna and his grandson Aron Rhea Sweeney.
