SWOSU Bulldog pride starts at an early age.

The SWOSU Department of Music recently began offering classes for children ages 3 and older.

The classes are: Mini Mozarts Piano for Young Musicians, kindergarten through fourth grade Music Explorers, kindergarten through third grade Musical Preschool Pups, ages 3 and 4 Music Theater Workshop, grades six through eight Allegro Youth Choir, grades two through five Also available are private lessons and adaptive lessons for all standard band, orchestra and keyboard instruments.

“I’m very excited about the opening of the SWOSU Music Academy. By offering a variety of group classes and private music lessons, we’re eager to connect local families to quality music instruction while providing mentor-supported, hands-on professional teaching experience for our SWOSU music students. This is the kind of community partnership which makes Weatherford such a special place to live and work. We hope the program will continue to grow as more families hear about these musical opportunities,” Dr. Kristin Griffeath said.

Dr. Kristin Griffeath is the SWOSU Music Academy Faculty Director, a professor in the SWOSU Department of Music, and a conductor of the SWOSU Music Academy’s Allegro Youth Choir.

All of the classes and lessons will be taught by both SWOSU faculty and by junior faculty who are SWOSU music majors.

The classes will be taking place during a 10-week term during the fall on SWOSU’s Weatherford campus in both the Fine Arts Center and the Berrong Music Hall. Online lessons will be available upon request. Classes began September 12 for the fall term, but a second term will be offered for the spring starting in January.
