  • Historic U.S. 66 opened in 1926 and connected Santa Monica, California, and Chicago. The highway runs through Weatherford and Oklahoma has the most miles of any state.
Today, the bulk of Route 66’s claim to fame are the attractions along the 2,448 mile stretch of road that passes through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
